On October 29th, 2012, Hurricane Sandy hit New York City with 80mph sustained winds and a 14 foot storm surge. It caused nearly $20 billion in damage while destroying thousands of homes and businesses. 44 New Yorkers lost their lives during the storm and millions were affected by the disruption of critical infrastructure.
